Received Signal Strength-Based Localization for Vehicle Distance Estimation in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs)

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are an eminent area of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) which includes vehicle tracking, positioning, and emergency warnings. For protective applications, localization in the urban is a significant problem. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) one many solutions that have been offered, although they do not offer accuracy. To locate target accurately, unique approach called received signal strength- (RSS-) based scheme has proposed. By detecting signals within its range, it establishes communication through roadside units (RSUs) determines typical RSS. Following discovery RSS, RSS-based algorithm helped determining precise position vehicle. The high signal-to-noise ratio proposed algorithm, derived from neighbouring RSUs, key component. vehicle’s Cramer Rao lower bound (CRLB) examined after discovered. Various experimentations considering dynamic vehicles ranging 2 to 100, error, throughput conducted demonstrates (RSS) better results (87%, 80%, 120) than other well-established least squares (LS) weighted methods (WLS).
